Areas of the Home to Clean After Renovations

If you have renovations done in your home, you will be excited for them to finally be completed. This is particularly true if builders have been in your home for months, with the loud noises, early mornings and general upheaval.

But you also have to be prepared for the mess that is going to be there after renovations have been completed. This can include building debris, layers of dust and there will be dirt lying around. So, before you can make the most of your renovations, you will have to deep clean your home. Here are some areas of the house you will want to concentrate on and clean after renovations.

Windows and Doors

First of all, you will want to ventilate your home after the builders have been. There can be a strong smell of paint, glue or even wood, depending on what renovations have been completed. While this might not be an unpleasant smell, it is one that is probably strong. So, you want to ensure you get some fresh air in your home.

Next, you will want to start cleaning the doors and windows around the house. There can be dirt and dust around these areas, including on the windowsills and door frames. Give them a good wipe-down. The Light Fixtures

Next, you want to concentrate on the light fixtures. This is often a place people forget about, thinking that dust will concentrate on low areas of the home. But, this is not always true and particularly if the builders have been working high up or on the ceilings.

So, you will want to wipe all around the light fixtures, as well as on the bulbs themselves. This is going to ensure that all of the dust and building debris is removed. Plus, it is likely that these areas were dirty to begin with, as it is probably not somewhere you concentrate on when you are normally cleaning your home.

The Skirting Boards

While you might think that there is not a huge surface area on the skirting boards, it is definitely somewhere dust and dirt gather. So, before you start putting your furniture back to where it was before, you will want to take the vacuum or a wet cloth to the skirting boards. This is going to make sure you get all of the dirt that is there.

Again, you are likely to be surprised by how much dust gathers on the skirting boards, even in rooms where the renovations were not happening. So, this is definitely an area of the home that you want to clean after you have had builders in. It will not take long to wipe them all down. But, it can really make a difference to your home and including the air quality.

Any Surfaces

Unfortunately, dust lies everywhere when you have had builders in. So, you are going to have to make sure you clean every surface you have in your home or that is near to the renovations. Often, surfaces in the room will be covered by sheets. So, they might not be as dirty as other places in the home. But, you should not take for granted that they are clean. Instead, wipe down everywhere.

Therefore, ensure you do not forget about any surfaces in the house. This includes things like tables, bookshelves and desks. Again, just because you do not see dirt does not mean that it is not there. It is best to be thorough in your cleaning now and you will thank yourself later on.

The Floor

One of the worst parts of the home after renovations is the floor. This applies to rooms that have not been touched by builders. The dust and debris can get everywhere, as builders come in and out of the house, as well as getting circulating around the place without you realising. So, you want to make sure one of the areas of your home you concentrate on is the floor, whether it is carpet, tile or wood.

So, the first thing you need to do is think about the type of flooring you have. If you have anything other than carpet, you will want to use a damp mop and make sure you get all of the dust and dirt. If you have carpet, you will want to spend a good amount of time vacuuming.

The Bathroom

It does not matter whether renovations were happening in the bathroom or not. You will find dirt and debris here. Somehow, it always ends up in the bathroom and perhaps this is because the builders will use it at some point during the day. So, this should be another room that you concentrate on when you are cleaning up.

Of course, you will want to clean places like the toilet, bath and sink. But, do not forget to go behind these areas and places you cannot see.
